Open Farms Day

Not many ice cream businesses can say the milk and cream they use in their ice cream comes from their own farms.

At Appleby Farms, we own the paddocks, grow the grass, nurture our A2 cows and churn their delicious milk into the best ice cream.

On March 1st, we invited the region to experience Kingsway Farms as part of the Open Farms Day initiative held around New Zealand. The Open Farms team are led by a team of Kiwi farmer advisors and communication folk hoping to reconnect Kiwis with food and land.

We had lots of fun on the day including educational talks with Murray about the cows, milking and environmental practices on the farm. The kids had a ton of fun playing on farm machinery and brushing up on their colouring skills. Most importantly, everyone was able to end (or start! for some) their visit with an Appleby Farms ice cream.

Kingsway Farms has been part of Murray’s family for around 60 years and Murray is part of the third generation dedicated to nurturing the farm.

Murray wanted people to know and see that we do the best that we can on the farm and that people really understand better why what happens on the farms, why things are done  in a certain way and what it means to be a dairy farmer.
